After four what seemed like never ending hours, Phil spotted the elusive and very well camouflaged Great Bittern in the reedbed!
Now... Can you?
If you take into account that I've used a 300mm lens and a 2X teleconverter making this shot roughly twelve times magnification, you can see how hard these shy birds are to spot.
Shortly after firing off about sixty shots it swam out a little way and was then mobbed by about twenty birds mainly Gulls and Ravens, it took off and I missed the in-flight shot!!!

I see it although if I wasn't specifically looking for it I doubt I world have found it. This being a crop of the entire area helps too.

Very cool! Perhaps next time don't center him, it might make it more of a challenge to find him? Awesome shot either way though, you definitely don't see to many photos of bitterns! :D
